Roy's food is AMAZING! Everything is absolutely delicious. The flavors are so well blended together and so unique to anything Charlotte Is doing that this is an absolute must try spot. I dream about their mashed potatoes. The service is absolutely terrible, it's so bad it could easily ruin this business. I've gone a few times, but at this point have just stopped and stick to take out from here. I really hope they fix it, bc the food is bomb.

(10/19/23) Roy's Place, a haven of tranquility in this crazy NODA neighborhood. Everyone is very friendly. I'd never had Jamaican food before so I was a little lost. Fortunately, the server stepped right up and suggested some food that an adventurous person like myself would welcome. I ordered some Yucca Fries from the appetizer menu and Jerk Shrimp for my entree. The fried yucca was just like French fries. Unfortunately the seasoning was very light. It definitely needs a sauce to accompany it. The jerk shrimp was flavorful with a hint of spice. I should've been bolder in declaring my spice preferences. The peas & rice and the fried banana sides were good. Overall it was a good meal. There are a few things on the menu that I'd like to try on my next visit.

This was a decent spot with a Caribbean feel. My friends and I shared 3 apps- chimichurri tostones, beef empanadas, and salt fish fritters. The chimichurri tostones were bland. They lacked flavor. You're basically munching on a flavorless fried plantain. The salt fish fritters were actually okay... think hushpuppy stuffed with a fish mixture. The beef empanadas were pretty good. I'd say of the three apps, these were the best. I was kind of expecting this place to have beef patties but they didn't. This was an okay alternative. My friends had curry goat and roti, which they said was just okay. One friend sent her rice and peas back, stating it wasn't good at all. For my entree, I ordered the mango habanero salmon, mac n cheese, and brussels sprouts. The mango habanero salmon had a subtle sweetness (not much spice), not over powering, but was cooked well and tasted good. I'd order this again. The mac n cheese was... meh. It looked better than it tasted. It needed salt or maybe some sharp cheddar to set it off. The brussels sprouts were the winner here!! They were AMAZING! Probably the best ones I've ever had. I would definitely order these again. Honestly, I would probably give this place 3.5 stars, but that's not an option, so I'll give it a 4 :-)

Okay, I'm back for round 2! This visit - THE BROWN STEWED RED SNAPPER!!!!!!! Shiiiiiiid, it was fire. My platter consisted of the same sides from yesterday which was the perfect combination of cabbage, pidgeon peas and rice, and mixed veggies, and once again, they've outdone my taste buds. Leaving here, I want nothing other than a cigarette (I'm not a smoker by the way), a hot coffee, and my fluffy hotel bed! OMG I'm going to sleep well this evening...

My son suggested I try this place for dinner. We decided to order carryout so we could check out another spot as well. There is a lot on the menu to choose from. They have reasonable prices and the food was delicious. I went with the jerk chicken with rice and peas. My son ordered the jerk chicken burrito with fries and we got empanadas to have for breakfast. We called in our order as we were trying to find parking. I was able to walk around the establishment while our order was finishing up. They have plenty of seating inside and out. Nice little bar area inside and many tables for parties of four or more. Out back was a huge bar and an even larger patio area, both rich and vibrantly colored. 10/10 recommend.

Heard so many good things about this spot, I had to try it out to see if it lived up to the hype. Super glad I did just that! Arrived and the told the host I wanted to place an order to go and he instructed me to head to the bar. Since I knew I would have to wait, mind as well get a drink. Kia was working the bar, she instructed me to scan the barcode for the menu and asked what I wanted to drink while I was going to wait. I asked her for recommendations and after hearing the delicious options, I decided on the Rum Punch. After looking at the menu, I wanted everything, lol. So in true fashion, I ordered several items so I could try it out. I placed my order for Red Snapper, Empanadas, Jerk Chicken Nachos, Curry Chicken and did Collard Greens and Mac and Cheese as my sides. As you can see by the pics, the Mac and Cheese never made it print. It was SO GOOD!! Now that doesn't mean the other items weren't delicious too because they were AWESOME (in my Miz voice). I just wanted to taste it before leaving and well it never made it back in the bag. In case you wondering, they offer indoor and outdoor seating (which includes and outside bar) and they are open for dining. I will definitely be back to your establishment real soon and can't wait to try other menu items!
